OUR PHILOSOPHY

Children are individuals with unique talents, capabilities and aspirations. These qualities must be nurtured for children to flourish in their development. Children who have known respect will value themselves and others. Children have a natural sense of curiosity. We hope to facilitate this by providing a stimulating, healthy, safe, nurturing and caring environment. Children will confidently learn and thrive if the magical early steps of play and discovery are accentuated with enjoyment.

We believe that children learn best through play-based activities. In conjunction with the Australian Government Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and through our programming philosophy, Precious Momentz encourages children to become involved by providing interest-based experiences (as well as input from families and educators). This enables them to develop their capabilities while simultaneously building on their needs and challenging their strengths – thus allowing the children to become successful and confident learners.

We value the community, families, children and educators. We understand that all of these people are vital to running a high-quality service. We strive for diversity and believe that all educators, families and children should be treated with respect, fairness and equity. A significant emphasis is placed on the importance of daily routine at the service - children thrive in a well-ordered and predictable environment, where daily routines such as arrivals and departures, mealtimes, sleep/rest times and toileting are dealt with consistently by all educators. Daily routines allow children to learn more about themselves, their world, and others. Daily routines also offer children a sense of stability and warmth. Precious Momentz has in place appropriate daily routines for children that provide them with a sense of consistency and security yet remain flexible and responsive to each child's individual needs.

OUR PHILOSOPHIES REGARDING

THE CHILDREN:

  • We believe that all children are curious, competent, and unique learners. All children are given equal opportunities regardless of gender, culture, and socio-economic background, and we support children who require additional support.

  • We recognise and value the unique pace of each child’s learning and their background's influence on this learning. Educators will facilitate experiences and environments tailored to individuals and small groups of learners to support their knowledge acquisition.

  • We believe children learn best through play. As educators, we support this by facilitating child-initiated and directed experiences, reflecting their interests and supporting our belief that learning should be socially driven, with children learning in collaboration with each other supported by educators.

  • We believe in supporting the holistic development of each child, valuing them in the here and now and helping them to connect with their family and community.

  • Educators will focus on positive forms of behaviour guidance and work collaboratively with families to support the consistency of strategies appropriate for the Service and home use. We will acknowledge and label children’s feelings in their presence, reflect empathy and support children in recognising and dealing with these feelings. We will provide appropriate strategies for children to deal with their emotions to help them self-regulate and develop resilience.

  • Educators will advocate for and protect the rights and well-being of children and their families.

FAMILIES:

  • Families are the most important people in children’s lives and have valuable information and insights to share about their children and family. Educators encourage and value open communication with families and respect individual beliefs, values, cultures and parenting styles.

  • We recognise the importance of the partnership role we play with families, the support services involved with families, and the support these partnerships have on enriching the lives of families.

  • We aim to develop supportive relationships between all parties that help to facilitate optimal outcomes for children and families.

  • We respect the child’s and family’s right to confidentiality, equity and fairness and respect their requests for privacy.

  • We value and encourage family participation and their contribution to the Services policies and procedures. We invite families to be involved in our Service. Our open-door policy welcomes family participation and a detailed orientation process that allows for a smooth transition for families into our Service.

  • We recognise the need families have to have a safe, secure and nurturing environment for their children.

OUR EDUCATORS AND SUPPORT STAFF:

  • We recognise, respect and value each team member's contribution to the greater team.

  • Educators and support staff are valued for their individuality, knowledge, skills, experience and training.

  • We work as a cohesive, supportive team for various roles and responsibilities.

  • Communication is the key to the success of the team’s relationship. Therefore open, respectful and productive communication is consistently undertaken to meet the needs of all team members and to support and work through issues of potential conflict.

  • We encourage and provide educators and support staff opportunities to extend their professional knowledge and skills through in-services and training.

  • We believe we have a responsibility to help support and guide future childcare professionals who are studying at recognised TAFE / CIT colleges and universities. We partner with these organisations in placing students and guiding them in their hands-on and theory-based learning.

  • We abide by the Education and Care Services National Regulations, Guidelines and Procedures, AECA code of ethics, UN Convention on the rights of the child, standards set by ACECQA (National Quality Framework) and The Early Years Learning Framework.

OUR PROGRAM:

  • The program is child-driven and based on their evolving interests. Educators facilitate learning by empowering children to hypothesise, make predictions, ask questions, and make learning choices.
  • The program acknowledges the critical role of the educator in guiding, supporting and further developing children’s knowledge, skills and interest.
  • The indoor and outdoor learning environments are stimulating and provide opportunities to foster relationships between mixed aged and family groupings, which in turn helps foster children’s early caring and empathy skills and provides opportunities for children to scaffold the learning of their peers.
  • The program provides regular, intentional teaching planned for individual and small group and spontaneous group experiences that are child-interest-based and focus on the importance of play in the lives of children.
  • We believe it is a hands-on play experience in which children learn a lifelong skill, and it’s the process of the play rather than the final product that provides the most beneficial learning.
  • Professional documentation is essential in sharing our program with children and their families. This is done in the form of floor books (documenting day-to-day learning and experiences), Raise
  • Learning, reflections, work samples and children’s portfolios – all available to families at any time.
  • We acknowledge and value the feedback they provide.

OUR ENVIRONMENT:

  • Our designated learning areas provide consistent opportunities for children to revisit, recreate, refine, re-enforce and challenge their existing abilities and reflect children’s interests.
  • Educators recognise that the environment is more than physical, but extends to the emotional feeling it reflects on children and families. We encourage children and families to have ownership of their environment and respect their peers, educators and the resources they engage with.
  • We facilitate opportunities throughout the day for children to explore our outdoor space. Through our flexible program and routines, we endeavour to respond to the changing needs and interests of the children as they make connections between what they are learning in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • We recognise that we all contribute to the well-being of our environments and want the children to join us as we continue to explore the idea of sustainability at our Service.
